Attracting women to technology
In 2021 we launched our new initiative, Challenge Perceptions, designed in part to create awareness of the gender divide that exists in our industry.
As an organisation we are committed to creating a diverse digital workforce, one which represents wider society.
There is clear gender disparity in our industry with less than 20% of the current UK tech workforce represented by women.
35% of STEM students in higher education are female
Over 1.1m women now work across core-STEM roles, but still only make up 24% of the core-STEM workforce.
Women account for just over 10% of engineering professionals.
Only 5% of females in engineering are in leadership positions.
Only 18 % of IT professionals are women.
Low uptake of STEM subjects can be linked to lack of female role models in industry.

These figures show that there is still much work to be done!
We champion and support the roles of women in digital and are striving to attract more female professionals to the industry
Our work includes:
Annual Women in Technology Award – recognising the outstanding work by female leaders in tech.
Industry partnerships with BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, BT, Openreach, Total Telecom, Telecom.tv, Comms Business and WISE Campaign.
Raising awareness of the issue through regular press and speaking opportunities at industry events.
We have joined forces with Vorboss to attract and recruit hundreds of female apprentices as part of its Female First Initiative.
We are proud to report that since our partnership began, 36 % of our apprentices recruited have been female.
We are always looking for partners to join us to help us in our mission to create a diverse digital workforce for the future.
