Meet the Team - Joe Kimber Executive Team / Business Development Executive
Joe, You started with ITP as an apprentice yourself, can you tell us why you initially applied for an apprenticeship?
I initially applied for an apprenticeship in 2015, as I had just completed my A-Levels and wanted to continue my development whilst earning a wage. The structure of the course was great, and I found that having taken a business A-Level really helped whilst completing my portfolio for my Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship.
What are you up to now?
I joined ITP at the young age of 18 and since then I have seen my role within the company grow hugely in the last 5 years!I am now a business development executive, helping to create and maintain relationships with employers looking to recruit apprentices within their company. To help aid my development in the world of sales, ITP asked if I would like to complete further education and I have recently enrolled onto the Level 3 IT Technical Sales course.
Having access to additional learning and support has been great and I am now confident in liaising with companies and identifying their apprenticeship needs whilst also being able to draw on my own experience.
How do you balance working and studying?
I’ve found it quite easy to balance really as ITP allow me to have Friday afternoons to keep my portfolio up to date and to the highest standard. However, to ensure that I am studying to my highest capability I also spend extra hours in my free time, as there aren’t enough hours in the working day to complete both!
I’d recommend anyone completing qualifications whilst working to carve out free time outside of work, this helps you to stay on track and means you wont have lots to catch up on as you get to the end of your apprenticeship!
What is a typical day like for you?
A typical day working day at ITP is very varied as we work in an ever-changing industry!
I work closely within the ITP Apprenticeship team and the finance department, so day to day work is changing and growing quickly! Whilst working on the apprenticeship side of the business, I am actively selling the scheme that we have on offer, whilst managing the portfolio of clients that have apprentices with us.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about taking the apprenticeship route?
Do it! The apprentice route is an ideal way to get your foot in the door into the business environment, learning new skills whilst also being paid. Since completing my first apprenticeship 2017 ,I have reaped the awards by progressively moving my way up the business hierarchy. I am a great ambassador for apprenticeships, having seen first -hand how successful you can be if you are prepared to put in the work! I am now actively seeking employers to take on fresh talent into their company as a great way to secure skilled people for their future workforce.
