Who is it for?
Engineering Technicians work in areas such as:
Equipment management and installation
Operation
Maintenance
Incident/change/problem management, administration
Security, fault diagnosis and fixing.
They typically work in a range of jobs that involve supporting or facilitating the use of equipment and applications by others.
Engineering Technicians can demonstrate underpinning knowledge and competence in the following:
Applying proven techniques and procedures to practical engineering problems
Hold supervisory or technical responsibility
Contributing to design, development, manufacture, commissioning, decommissioning or operation
Maintaining products, equipment, processes or services
Showing a creative approach to your work
Applying safe systems of working
How much does it cost?
Application fees and costs are payable at various stages throughout the registration process.
Once awarded Professional Registration, annual membership fees are payable to the ITP and Engineering Council.
Fees are as follows:
Professional registration application fee: £85
One off administration fee £TBC
Engineering Council registration fee: £20.66
Total: £105.66

How do I apply?
You will need to present evidence to demonstrate your level of competence on an application form.
To demonstrate competence you must be able to show:
Knowledge of the technologies, standards and practices relevant to the applicants area of work and having evidence of maintaining and applying this knowledge
How you apply engineering knowledge effectively and efficiently to individual tasks which need to be undertaken in your role
The ability to plan and manage your work effectively and efficiently
The ability to consider and identify improvements to maintain quality of your work
The ability work with others to explain ideas and proposals clearly and to discuss issues objectively and constructively
The ability to act in a professional manner in your work and dealings with others, setting a standard with regard to professionalism
The list below sets out the different ways in which you may demonstrate the knowledge and understanding to underpin the competences for EngTech registration:
Successful completion of an apprenticeship or other work-based learning programme approved by a Licensee
Alongside appropriate working experience, holding a qualification, approved by a Licensee, in engineering or construction set at either: level 3 (or above) in the Regulated
Qualifications Framework or National Qualifications Framework for England and Northern Ireland level 6 (or above) in the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework
level 3 (or above) in the Credit and Qualifications Framework for Wales
Alongside appropriate working experience, holding equivalent qualifications or apprenticeships accredited or approved by a Licensee, or at an equivalent level in a relevant national or international qualifications framework

Remember that formal education is just one option. If you do not hold a formal qualification, but can provide other evidence of your technical knowledge and understanding, you can still become registered. See later section for more information on work-based learning.
