They demonstrate to your customers that your organisation employs technologists and engineers at the very top of their profession.

Who's it for?

It is aimed at engineers who can demonstrate underpinning knowledge and competence in:

• Developing new or existing technology

• Problem solving

• Making a key contribution to your business’ success, through innovation, creativity and change

• Promoting advanced designs or design methods

• Developing better production techniques, marketing or construction concepts

• Pioneering technology or engineering services and management methods

How much does it cost?

Application fees and costs are payable at various stages throughout the registration process.

Once awarded Professional Registration, annual membership fees are payable to the ITP and Engineering Council.

Fees are as follows:

• Professional Registration application fee: £250

• One off administration fee: £65

• Engineering Council registration fee: £59.70

• Annual CEng Registration fee: £45.91

• Total: £420.61

How do I apply?

You will need to be familiar with UKSPEC(for the CEng Standard) and then demonstrate both competence and knowledge to the required standard to become registered.

You will need to present evidence to demonstrate your level of competence in both an application form and a face-to-face interview.

To demonstrate competence, you must be able to show:

• how you used your technical and/or engineering knowledge and understanding to improve or exploit new and advancing technology

• how you applied a combination of theoretical and practical methods to analyse and solve a technical and/or engineering problem. This may include the identification of a potential project and where you have conducted appropriate research to design and develop an engineering solution

• where you exercised your technical and commercial leadership skills

• your personal commitment to professional standards and recognition of obligations to society, the profession and the environment.

There are various different ways in which you may demonstrate the knowledge and understanding to underpin the competences for CEng registration:

• An accredited Bachelors degree with Honours in engineering or technology, plus either an accredited Masters degree, or appropriate further learning to Masters level

• An accredited, integrated MEng degree

• An accredited Bachelors degree with Honours in engineering or technology, started prior to September 1999 when the standard changed

• Other formal qualifications, e.g. those gained overseas, assessed as equivalent in the context of your overall application

• Work-based learning, assessed in the context of your overall application

• A combination of the above.

If you do not hold a formal qualification, but can provide other evidence of your technical knowledge and understanding, you can still become registered.
