A cloud architect oversees an organisation's cloud computing infrastructure. Their role involves utilising cloud technology to develop adoption strategies, design cloud applications and establish frameworks for overseeing, monitoring and sustaining the cloud environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design customised cloud environments tailored to meet client requirements.

  • Monitor, troubleshoot and optimise cloud infrastructures for efficiency.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams to execute projects effectively.

  • Develop secure and efficient cloud-based applications.

  • Translate technical project specifications into appropriate architectural designs.

  • Ensure the reliability and stability of cloud solutions and operations.

  • Staying updated on emerging technologies and trends in cloud computing.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Proficiency in cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.

  • Strong knowledge of enterprise computing and operating systems (OS) and cloud computing platforms, such as Linux, Windows, Microsoft Azure, and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

  • Strong understanding of cloud architecture principles and best practices.

  • Knowledge of front-end and back-end cloud technologies and components.

  • Expertise in virtualisation, containerisation and orchestration technologies.

  • Familiarity with programming languages commonly used in cloud environments (e.g., Python, Java).

  • Ability to design and implement cloud-based solutions that are scalable, secure and cost-effective.

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve issues in cloud environments.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams and clients.

  • Understanding of compliance, governance and regulatory requirements relevant to cloud computing.

  • Continuous learning mindset to stay updated on evolving cloud technologies and trends.

Step 4: Continue to develop your skills in system design, scalability, security and performance optimisation.

Step 5: Progress into a cloud solutions architect role.

Step 6: Stay updated with the latest trends, tools and best practices. Attend conferences, join professional networking groups and regularly participate in training programs to enhance your knowledge.

Step 7: After 10 years of service, you may be eligible to apply for Fellowship of The Institute of Telecommunications Professionals (ITP)
