Are you eligible?

You can apply for EngTech if you meet any of the following criteria:

• Successfully completed an approved apprenticeship or work-based learning program in engineering or construction.

• Hold a qualification in engineering or construction at level 3 (or above) in the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) or an equivalent level in national or international frameworks, alongside appropriate work experience.

• Have relevant qualifications and/or apprenticeships accredited or approved by an official licensing body, and supported by practical engineering experience.

How do I apply?

You will need to be familiar with UKSPEC (for the EngTech Standard) and then demonstrate both competence and knowledge to the required standard to become registered.

You will need to present evidence to demonstrate your level of competence on an application form.

To demonstrate competence you must be able to show:

• Knowledge of the technologies, standards and practices relevant to the applicants area of work and having evidence of maintaining and applying this knowledge

• How you apply engineering knowledge effectively and efficiently to individual tasks which need to be undertaken in your role

• The ability to plan and manage your work effectively and efficiently

• The ability to consider and identify improvements to maintain quality of your work

• The ability work with others to explain ideas and proposals clearly and to discuss issues objectively and constructively

• The ability to act in a professional manner in your work and dealings with others, setting a standard with regard to professionalism

The list below sets out the different ways in which you may demonstrate the knowledge and understanding to underpin the competences for EngTech registration:

• Successful completion of an apprenticeship or other work-based learning programme approved by a Licensee

• Alongside appropriate working experience, holding a qualification, approved by a Licensee, in engineering or construction set at either: level 3 (or above) in the Regulated

  Qualifications Framework or National Qualifications Framework for England and Northern Ireland level 6 (or above) in the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework

  level 3 (or above) in the Credit and Qualifications Framework for Wales

• Alongside appropriate working experience, holding equivalent qualifications or apprenticeships accredited or approved by a Licensee, or at an equivalent level in a relevant national or international qualifications framework

If you have the experience but lack formal qualifications, don’t worry—if your professional practice meets the required standards, you may still be eligible.

How much does professional registration cost?

You must be a member of the ITP before applying for Professional Registration. See here for membership levels and fees.

Engineering council entrance fee: £21.53

To maintain your professional accreditation status, an annual membership fee must be paid to the Engineering Council, along with ongoing ITP membership.
