Our cross-industry mentoring scheme

The ITP has mentors and mentees ready to be matched!

Mentoring is an essential component of both personal and professional development. It can offer guidance and support on your path to success, enabling employees to grow as leaders and professionals.

As a result of their constant exposure to new perspectives and ideas, employees who work with mentors develop the habit of learning from others. Mentoring also improves their capacity for overcoming challenges and adapting to change.

People can learn a lot about their industry, the most recent trends, and best practises through mentoring. It is a powerful tool that supports employees' learning and development in all spheres of their lives.

Some of the benefits of mentoring include:

  • Fosters a learning mindset

  • Helps the individual build relationships

  • Helps the individual to develop skills

  • Increases confidence

  • Provides support and guidance

  • Enhances leadership abilities

  • Fosters diversity

  • Reduces staff turnover

  • Increases employee engagement

  • Encourages professional growth

  • Fosters career advancement

  • Induces accountability in organisations

  • Helps employees navigate challenging situations

  • Increases chance of success

The traditional approach involves a senior professional (mentor) passing down their knowledge and expertise to a junior professional (mentee), but this isn’t always the case. Reverse mentoring offers an alternative, where a younger junior professional shares insights and guidance with a more senior professional. At the ITP, we offer both!

It’s not just the mentee who benefits—many experienced mentors say they gain valuable insights from their mentees, making cross-mentoring mutually beneficial.

We've been running our cross-industry scheme for a number of years, you can connect and find the right mentor for you on our member portal. Or reach out to our team, and we’ll personally connect you with the right match.

How It Works

  • Fill out a mentoring questionnaire to define your objectives.

  • Complete a few training modules.

  • Get matched with a suitable mentor.

  • Attend a facilitated first meeting.

  • Meet with your mentor monthly for six months or as agreed.

  • Work on tasks and objectives set by your mentor.

  • Receive ongoing support and check-ins from us.

Thinking of becoming a mentor? It's a simple and straight-forward process, and we'll be on hand to help.

Being a mentor has given me the opportunity to share my experience and in doing so has increased my confidence about my own knowledge. It has helped me to develop skills and understanding as part of my own personal and professional development and offered me new perspectives and personal challenge.

Sally Wells (Arup)

I've always relied on the advice of people around me, but we tend to surround ourselves with likeminded people, mentoring has opened my eyes to this echo chamber.

Something I believe too many people are missing in this current algorithmic age
