Network Administrators install and maintain hardware and software, document fault diagnoses and resolutions, manage user passwords and security, and maintain inventory documentation. They ensure servers, printers and computers operate efficiently and handle various operational tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform delivery, physical setup, installation, troubleshooting and repair of all hardware and software.

  • Train users on software applications, systems, AV equipment and telecom systems.

  • Maintain the telecom system, including handsets and company PDAs.

  • Manage user passwords and security protocols.

  • Document fault diagnoses and resolutions.

  • Maintain inventory documentation and update schedules as needed.

  • Ensure efficient performance of servers, printers and computers.

  • Provide help desk support to address user issues and inquiries.

  • Conduct regular system maintenance and updates.

  • Implement and enforce IT policies and procedures.

  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and security standards.

  • Proactively identify and address potential security vulnerabilities.

  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and execution.

  • Handle procurement of new hardware and software as needed.

  • Support remote users and remote access technologies.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Ability to provide technical support and troubleshooting for network issues.

  • Proficiency in installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining network hardware and software components.

  • Skills in administering servers, including installation, configuration and maintenance.

  • Strong documentation skills to prepare and maintain procedures, inventory records, fault diagnosis, resolutions and maintenance instructions.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities to identify, analyse and resolve network issues efficiently.

  • Good organisational skills to manage tasks, prioritise work effectively and keep documentation up-to-date.

  • Understanding of network security principles, practices and protocols.

  • Ability to adapt to changes in technology, network configurations and business requirements.

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service, addressing user needs and inquiries in a professional manner.

  • Understanding of networking concepts, protocols, architectures and technologies.

  • Knowledge of different network devices, software applications, protocols and services.

  • Understanding of network topologies, types and technologies.

  • Knowledge of wireless networking technologies and configurations.

  • Understanding of cloud computing concepts and their implications for network administration.

  • Familiarity with network security principles, practices and tools to protect against security threats.

  • Knowledge of troubleshooting methodologies and tools for diagnosing and resolving network issues.

  • Awareness of change management processes and procedures for implementing network changes.

  • Familiarity with IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) practices for IT service management.

  • Awareness of industry standards, regulations, and compliance requirements relevant to network administration.

Step 7: Work your way up into Network Engineering and leadership roles.
